Your powergrid

Welcome Your powergrid, our e-bulletin for everyone who has an interest in how we are delivering in the Northeast, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

We feature the environment in this edition and highlight our thinking for our business plan for 2015 and beyond. We also give you the opportunity to tell us what you think.

Whether you’re from a community or special interest group, local or central government, an energy supplier, a local business, an investor or one of the many people who are interested in what we do; we aim to keep you informed about our plans for the future and the issues you are interested in.

One horsepower: Northern Powergrid has replaced machine with animal and is working with the Forestry Commission to clear trees around a low voltage overhead line in Guisborough Forest by giving a horse called Blue a new career as a traditional logging horse.

Have your say

Northern Powergrid has an impact on the environment, in which our customers and other stakeholders live and work, simply by our very existence.

We are committed to protecting the environment as we go about the day-to-day activity that is necessary to manage the power network, whether it’s replacing oil-filled cables with more solid insulation or maintaining our road works compliance above the target set by the local authorities as we did last year.

Find out more about our environmental policy and the challenges we face by going to Have Your Say, on the Your powergrid section of our website. Watch a video about vegetation management or read our Environmental Policy statement. You can also take a quick poll and tell us where you think our environmental priorities should lie.

You may be interested in other issues and Have Your Say also features getting connected to the network, our Priority Services Register and the challenges posed by the low carbon future. We’ll be regularly adding other topics and you’ll be able to comment on all or any of them.

Stakeholders online

Don’t forget we’ve launched a new area of our online community to make it easy as possible for you to let us know what you think of our plans. Protecting the environment is the latest topic for discussion.

And by using the links below you can choose to give feedback on the issues that interest you the most or you can simply tell us what you think about our business as a whole.

What’s new

Northern Powergrid maintains a flow of trained staff through its workforce renewal programme to carry out the work that keeps power supplies safe and reliable.

We’ve been taking on, on average, 55 trainees but our business plan proposes increasing that to an average 100 trainees each year from 2015.

We’ve just launched our latest recruitment drive and you can read more by visiting our careers area.

Two major metal theft incidents recently hit customers in the Northeast, prompting much coverage in the local press. We joined forces with Northumbria Police to launch an appeal for more information, which you can read about in our news article.

Metal theft costs us £8 million each year and it’s a subject we’ll be returning to it in a later e-bulletin.

Tell us how we’re doing.

We have put together a short survey so you can tell us about how you want to communicate with us and how well you think we’re doing in making this happen.  So why not give us your thoughts?

Keep up to date with opportunities to engage with us.
We’ve added some dates for our connections customers to come and talk to us about their projects. See the events for this year at opportunities to engage
